The FH-P8000BT is smartly designed to expand your system, customize your experience, provide superior sound quality and easy operation. Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner Pioneer's legendary Supertuner IIID combines the best of digital and analog tuner technologies to reduce distortion to bring you exceptional FM and AM performance. If you live in an area where reception is weak, you'll hear a big improvement in signal strength. And when you're near tall buildings, Supertuner IIID reduces the effect of multi-path noise, which occurs when the signal is reflecting off of the buildings. MOSFET 50W x4 Amplifier for the Power Hungry Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, delivering power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. And that doesn't just mean a boost in volume: it means that your music will be cleaner at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. Clean, efficient power that will rock your vehicle. For those who'd like a bit more power, three 4V preamp outputs are also included for system expansion (front/rear/sub). -Radio sensitivity is lower than the original Pioneer that came in my Scion.
Better choices out there August 23, 2010 David M. Martin (Yorktown Heights, NY USA) This is the worst tuner I've ever used, and my first FM tuner was a Motorola under-dash adapter in 1969! I bought Pioneer for their excellent sensitivity but, even though the FM sensitivity is rated high, I got terrible results in my Solara. At first I thought it was the rear window antenna and the need for the second diversity plug. My new replacement tuner proved that wrong. But even ignoring this defect, which is a big thing here in Westchester NY where reception is tough, the software that operates this thing is horrible! Until recently, my job was to test radio broadcast software, so I am used to complexity and learning menus. Even after a month I had to go to the manual - a poorly written PDF file written in broken English with errors that should have been caught - every time I wanted to do something, like pairing a new bluetooth phone. For example, the manual said to push the SAT button to change the satellite radio mode. There is no SAT button! Hitting buttons randomly I finally found the button that worked for that function. The big center knob on the unit attracted me at first, thinking it would make this unit easy to use for my wife, who does not take to gadgets. Not so, too many confusing ways to push it. And it is flimsy and will probably break in a year. Save yourself a lot of grief. I just bought the Pioneer AVH 3200BT. For $120 more, what a difference. Excellent reception, I paired the phone without even cracking the manual (hard copy, nicely edited). DVD and video off memory sticks to boot. One reason I will always buy car equipment from Crutchfield - tech support is GREAT and return policy liberal, otherwise I would have been stuck with a piece of junk. Pioneer should be ashamed to put their name on this.
Not sure I would purchase a second time August 19, 2010 Ecdycis So this thing looks awesome in my car and it is fairly easy to navigate, however before I purchased this I asked if I could hook my zune through usb, however once installed I found this to not be the case. Only reason I kept it was because you can hook up a hard drive to the usb and control that which rocks. Bluetooth is sub-par and would never answer a call through the system I always had to answer through the phone. I could never figure out how to set the clock on it and emailed pioneer about it cause the instructions suck. They sent a list of ways that might set it. All in all as a audio system it is nice and it looks awesome.
Awesome Stereo August 3, 2010 R. Anderson (oregon) This is a great stereo. We are enjoy its awesome features and learning more about it all the time.
Not working with the iPhone 3GS and iOS4 July 15, 2010 Tony Bentley (Seattle, WA, USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'm afraid if you are planning to pair it with the iPhone with OS4, it will not work. I just bought this unit and am pretty upset that it does not work the way they advertise. Also, the USB iPod connection will randomly disconnect and you need to reset the connection to get it to play again. This happens every time I start my car and use it for a while. I'm pretty tech savvy and read the entire manual so I know it isn't operator error. I just sent Pioneer an email which I will keep in communication through this review about what I learn.
Update: July 17th 2010
After speaking with Pioneer via phone, they said that all of their units are having problems with the iOS4 in regards to Bluetooth connectivity. There is no resolution and there is no way of getting notification when they resolve the problem. Unfortunately, Pioneer has not kept their products current with Apple's iOS which means the consumer is going to end up with a stereo that does not work.
In closing, I spent $500 for a new stereo that does nothing more than my old factory stereo for music playback. I am not satisfied with my purchase.
Please rate this review so others will know of this issue and be aware of the faulty product.
Update: August 11th 2010
Added two stars because the unit does work (mostly).
